Home Office bans

SOONER OR later a ban from the Home Office will be worn as a badge of honour - that's if it's not already one.

The decision to ban shock jock loon Michael Savage is ludicrous as it is perplexing. For one thing, I'm no fan of Savage. Furthermore, none of my American friends are fans of Savage, but merely find it confusing why we would ban an individual who has no plans to even travel to the UK. It's as if at the weekly meeting Jacqui Smith asked her mandarins to draft a list of "ten individuals you would most like to see banned from the UK".

In addition, the Home Office's claim that Savage is "seeking to provoke others to serious criminal acts and fostering hatred which might lead to inter-community violence" also gives far too much credence to his views. As someone has already pointed out, banning Savage accepts that he has a coherent set of views.

Where does it stop?
